Roger M. Boor, Jr. was born on January 28, 1961 in Dayton, Ohio. He lived in several surrounding states until his family settled in Downers Grove, IL where he spent his key developmental years through high school and college.
His love of music began early and was a constant throughout his entire life. From his early days learning guitar and reading liner notes on album covers, he retained the most impressive library of music knowledge that allowed him to best the keenest competitors in any music trivia contest. He actually marked all of the key moments of his life by the music of the day and you never knew what vivid memory would come to life when an “oldie” came on the radio.
He was well-embroiled in operating the radio station at Downer’s South with who would become a life-long friend, Jim Beatty, and won over the student body with both his knowledge and wit. He also spent his spare time composing music and lyrics to original songs.
His dedication to music led him into careers selling radio advertising, traveling with the Christian rock group Petra, and to running the largest record store in Nashville, CATS Records, where he met many of the leading artists of the time.
On the job front, Roger was also a cook, worked with developmentally delayed adults, handled merchandising at a concert venue, ran a photography studio with his first wife, Kathleen, and grew a software consulting company leading into Y2K.
In 1996, Roger met his match in wit and wisdom and relocated to California in January of 1998. Although he spent a time day trading the stock market, he found his professional niche guiding entrepreneurs through the business start-up process.
Through New Business Consultants, subsequently refocused as Silicon Valley Accounting Solutions, Roger and Elaine spent nearly 20 years running their business together. They built an accounting services organization aimed at small businesses, start-ups, and non-profit organizations. Roger was the primary inspiration for the company’s website and marketing programs and networked throughout the bay area on its behalf.
In their time together, Roger and Elaine frequented local music and comedy establishments, spent many vacations on cruises and in Las Vegas, and became season ticket holders for the San Jose Sharks. These activities were earmarked by photographs taken with the many famous (and some not so famous) personalities they met.
Having dealt with life-long health issues, Roger lost his struggle on July 1st, 2023. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to have known him, in particular, by his wife and partner of 25 years, Elaine Orgain, his brother Jeffrey and sister-in-law Laurie.
Roger was best known for his enormous heart, his superior wit, his business acumen, and his endless music knowledge. More importantly, however, knowing Roger was the warm hug and the encouragement to be our best selves that raised the spirits of all who knew him.
To his wife, partner, and dear friend, he was giving and genuine, sharing the best parts of himself while shielding her from whatever shortcomings he perceived in himself. They lived their lives together bound in humor, succeeding in business, and playing in Las Vegas.
To his staff and business associates, he was a great sounding board. If you could tell him where you wanted to end up, he could lay a path for you to reach your goals. He mentored many entrepreneurs while driving his own company forward and was an inspiration to anyone stalled in their thinking along the way.
To his poker buddies, he was the plucky comic relief at the table, rising to any music trivia challenge, and all the while, plotting his strategy to abscond with everyone’s chips.
Roger was predeceased by his parents Beverly and Roger Boor, Sr. of Dayton, OH and survived by one brother, Jeffrey Boor of Hot Springs Village, AR.
He was laid to rest in Mission City Memorial Park in a private ceremony on August 28, 2023.
Virtual Celebration of Life For Roger Boor
Recorded Sunday, January 28, 2024
Roger’s family invites you to view the Celebration of Life Service & Reception honoring his life and legacy.
I only learned of Roger’s passing today and was very saddened to hear. I was in the Santana Row BNI chapter with Roger several years ago. We lost touch after I left the group, but he was genuinely one of my favorite people there. He was always so kind and funny.
My deep condolences to Elaine and all of those who loved him. I will remember him fondly.
Roger will be greatly missed but never forgotten!
Me, my sister Kim, Rog and Jeff are family. Our families were always together…i thought of Rog and Jeff as my brothers and Roger SR and Bev were the same as my Mom and Dad.
I lost one of my brothers…we hadn’t been close for a lot of years but I always knew both Rog and Jeff were there if I needed anything.
We lost my mom at an early age of 56. Rog and Jeff were both there for Kim an I. After my mom’s service all our family came back to my house to gather an console each other. When everyone left to go back to our lives, I went upstairs to my bedroom to ready myself for bed an in the corner of my big mirror I found a Pooh Bear Sticker. I knew who put it there, I felt like I had someone watching over me and only confirmed my thoughts that Rog was there for me….
Roger was 9 months younger than me…when Beverly was pregnant with Rog Bev came to the hospital to see me and mom. Bev would say she know me from the day I was conceived…
So I know he’s watching down on us waiting to welcome each of us home when it’s our time
Elaine, the Celebration was really nice. Roger touched so many and it was nice to see what great friends he’d gathered over the years. He was the first person to welcome me to the BNI Group when I was shopping for a group to join. He really made me feel welcome. Roger had a way of making you feel special. He paid attention and really listened. So many people are there but not really present but Roger cared and conversations with him were just easy. He was witty, wise and just a darn nice guy. Roger, you will be missed.
Elaine, I love you and value our friendship. As you move into the next chapter of your life know I’m here for you, whatever you need, any time or place.
What a lovely celebration of Roger’s life. It is so very clear what an impact he has had on so many people. So fun to see all the pictures over the years. Elaine – I am so very sorry for your loss. Far too soon for someone so full of life to have left us.
Thank you for the celebration of Roger. It was touching and provided a glimpse into many aspects of his life. May his memory be a blessing.
Elaine – Thank you for this wonderful celebration of Roger. He was an amazing man and one of the most consistently kind, generous, and considerate people I’ve ever known. He was a great friend and colleague. I treasure those quiet, calm moments of talking with him in the conference room at Techmart about ideas and strategies for helping someone build their business. Roger listening intently, asking questions, offering insights, chuckling–I miss those moments! Roger and you have been a huge part of my professional path, always seeking to help, and I am forever grateful. You and Roger are in Sandy’s and my thoughts and prayers.
Elaine, Thanks again for organizing Roger’s celebration. His life touched so many people and you were able to bring some of his biggest fans together on his birthday – in the only way possible. I only wish we could have all given you (and each other) a hug today but it was Roger’s fault that he was so well traveled and loved nation-wide! Thank you!!
Thank you, Elaine, for a beautiful memorial. I feel that I know Roger much better than I ever did before. It was a privilege to be part of it.
In the years that I met with Roger (through a self-employment help group), I remember his upbeat attitude and friendly smile. He was kind to me, helpful to my business, and a reminder not to sweat the small stuff. Roger is an icon to me about having a positive attitude and being generous. It was always easy for me to share the more difficult aspects of my business life with Roger, because he was so genuinely interested, and eager to share his experience. Even though the window with which I met regularly with Roger was relatively brief, the memory of his insights and generosity remain with me.
I love you and miss you Uncle Roger.
I was so sad to hear about the lose of Roger. He was a very important part of my early business life and I considered him a mentor as well as a friend. I was always happy to see his smiling face and we could easily talk for hours while sometimes hiding from the crowds; we were both made anxious by crowds. I wish with all my heart that I could have more lunches and conversations with him. He will be greatly missed.
Roger was a foundation piece for me during my early entrepreneur days. Both he and Elaine were so welcoming, patient and nuturing. I would stop by the office and they both would give great advice and the direction needed to take the next step. Roger was always a pleasure and will remain that way in my mind for me to emulate to share others seeking similar advice. You are missed good sir but always remembered.
Roger was the first person to greet me when I joined our BNI group back in 2013. He always approached everyone with a big smile, whether meeting them for the first time or greeting a friend. I always enjoyed talking to him about anything, but especially the Sharks. We were able to reconnect in the last couple of years, when he and Elaine bought sharks tickets near mine. It was fun getting caught up between periods. I will treasure those memories.
Roger immediately connected with me when I started my own business. I’ll remember him for his generosity, willingness to spend time with me, and the valuable advice he bestowed. It was always a joy to meet with him. He’s one of the good guys I’ll always remember.
This slideshow is heartwarming and absolutely wonderful! I only knew Roger as an adult, but can see through these photos that his warmth, compassion and fun sense of humor started from the very beginning of his life. I wish he was here for commentary on some of the outfits. I’m very blessed to have had the opportunity to meet Roger professionally with an eventual friendship that ensued over the many years we spent the networking group he recruited me to. He had an infectious laugh and brought many boughts of laughter to our weekly BNI Santana Row meetings. Thank you for the good times Roger! You are appreciated and you are missed by many. To Elaine and Roger’s family, please accept my most sincere condolences.
