It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Pauline Orderson, a cherished and dedicated mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend, on February 23, 2024, at her eldest daughter’s residence. Born on December 9, 1929, in Georgetown, Guyana, Evelyn was the fourth child of Rosaline and Clement Hampden King.

Evelyn’s life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion to her family and a celebration of her passions. Raised in Georgetown with her nine siblings, after completing high school, Evelyn attended school for commercial studies, excelling in advanced shorthand and typewriting, and the Carnegie School of Home Economics. Her cooking, sewing, and decorating skills were not just talents but expressions of her love and creativity.

Evelyn met the love of her life, Walter Ovid Orderson, and chose the fulfilling role of housewife and mother. Together, Evelyn and Ovid made a loving home in Guyana filled with laughter. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, and Evelyn thrived as a cook, decorator, entertainer, mother, and wife. Her home was a hub of warmth and hospitality, a welcoming space for family and friends, including those visiting from overseas.

Evelyn dedicated her life to nurturing her family. Over the last two decades of her life, she joined her two daughters in their homes, adding love and laughter, but her heart remained in 33 Sheriff & Dadanawa Streets, Georgetown, Guyana. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her children: Pauline Regina Plant, Lorna Blust, and Wayne Orderson. She is also survived by son-in-law Richard Blust and daughter-in-law Eva Etwaroo Orderson. Her joy was multiplied even further by her grandchildren, Natasha Blust and Tyler Orderson.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Christopher Plant, five of her siblings and her beloved husband and soulmate, Ovid. She is survived by her four siblings: Doreen Wiltshire, Dr. Joseph King, Ava Brewster Haynes, and Kay Ngui-yen. She is also survived by Sister-in-Law Ivonne Waldron.

Known for her kindness and humor, Evelyn’s spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Rest in peace, Mom. Your memory will forever be a treasure in our hearts.

Auntie Evelyn was a great friend to my Mother Gladys.

I left Guyana when I was very young but we visited Auntie Evelyn 3 times since. What I remember the most is the laughter. She was very warm, always had a bright smile and an infectious laugh.

I lost touch with her over the years but I still have fond memories of her. She will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to Gina, Lorna and Wayne. Im sure your Mom was very proud of each of you and will continue to be with you in your hearts.

Evelyn Orderson was my sister-in-law. She was married to my brother Ovid. They were good together. Evelyn nurtured three loving and respectful children.

She was always welcoming and loved to entertain in her home. I loved her mannerism, gentleness, loving and her ladylike personality. But don’t be fooled she was jovial and liked having fun and always had a joke to tell.

Because of that union with my big brother Ovid, Evelyn meant a lot to me. She was like a sister to me and I shall miss her. May she rest peacefully.

Love and blessings to Regina, Lorna and Wayne.

Evelyn was a very dear sister to me and I will never forget her kindness and love when our mom passed away as I was the youngest. She was like a mother, friend and confidant during my formative years of growing. I remember the precious times we shared and her playful and wicked sense of humour. We could even communicate in a different language she taught me without anyone knowing what we discussed.
Our wedding was held at her home and she was also very close to my husband John and I after we got married. We will truly miss her and never forget her kindness. I know that she is in a better place with our heavenly father. May she rest in peace in the loving arms of our saviour. Our deepest sympathy and condolence to Regina, Lorna and Wayne as words cannot express our heartfelt feelings at your loss and you will always be in our prayers along with Natasha and Tyler.

Evelyn King and Maggie Smith bonded and became friends at school – a friendship that lasted a lifetime and even extended outwards to later include their spouses and children. Many visits, parties, Christmases, holidays and hangouts were spent together and were always wonderful occasions looked forward to by all. Auntie Evelyn, as we called her, was welcoming and a fun-loving, sincere and loyal friend. We all enjoyed her wicked sense of humor and how she would deliver the funniest punchlines with a straight face and have everyone around her in stitches.

Maggie and Evelyn forged a bond that was strengthened by times of laughter, joy and sorrow and not weakened by distance. Even when in different countries they communicated frequently and visited each other, never losing that meaningful connection. Auntie Evelyn will be sorely missed.

Gina, Lorna and Wayne – you, your families and loved ones will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace Auntie Evelyn.

Aunty Evelyn was someone I will always remember with a smile. She was the funniest person I knew. We were not related by blood but through love. So many pleasant days spent on the verandah on Dadanawa Street with raucous laughter. She was a comedian of no mean order with the face of an angel. It’s sad the people leave Guyana and families and friends are scattered all around the world, but the wonderful memories of Aunty Evelyn bind us together. To Gina, Lorna and Wayne, their loved ones, her family in particular Aunty Nancy and my cousin Raymond, I offer my sincere condolences on the passing of this lovely woman whose memory will live on. May her soul Rest In Peace and Rise In Glory.
