Ted Winston Titel was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on March 11, 1949. He passed away on March 19, 2024, after a long and characteristically stubborn fight with dementia. Ted was only 75 years of age.

Ted is survived by his daughter, Jessica Schmidt, son-in-law, Nathan Schmidt, grand dog Loki, sisters Mary Neben and Virginia Coombs, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ted was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Titel, mother, Agnes Lokker, and always feisty sister, Gloria Barteck.

Ted grew up in Plymouth, Wisconsin, playing various sports, including football and baseball. He remained active until the end of his life, always on the move and ready for an adventure. Of Wisconsin, he spoke frequently of his love for the Kettle Moraine State Forest, Crystal Lake Golf Course, Johnsonville Brats, and Friday night fish fries.

He studied business at the University of Wisconsin and worked as a Plant Manager in the laundry industry for many years, overseeing maintenance teams. However, that didn’t interest him as much as spending time in the woods and taking long walks with his beloved dogs and grand dogs, Sadie, Kayla, Abby, Piper, and Silas (and the cat, Morgan). He also loved cooking out, keeping busy in the garage, thunderstorms, sitting on the back porch, and, in later years, reading lots of Terry Pratchett books.

To merely say that Ted loved golf would be an understatement. His passion during retirement was golf. He spent many summers with the Neben family in Lincoln, Nebraska, and golfed as much as possible. He even worked at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and spoke passionately about Oregon’s sweeping, untamed shores. Golf kept him active with family and friends while enjoying the outdoors, a perfect combination in his mind.

An online Celebration of Life will be held May 10, 2024.  Register below.

Donations in Ted’s name are welcome at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary to honor his memory. Or, if you prefer, take a long, peaceful walk in the woods while remembering him.  He would have liked that.

It was wonderful hearing the stories everyone shared about Ted yesterday. Ted and I met when I visited Jess and Nathan and would see each other when I was in Pennsylvania. He knew I was a Wisconsin native, and we would chat about living in the Midwest and places we had lived or seen. He also enjoyed talking about golf and the places he played, which was clearly one of his passions.

Thinking of Jess, Nathan, and all of Ted’s family and friends.

Ted was a gentleman and a wonderful golf partner. I wish we could play one more round together.
