Richard “Rich” Lynn McCutcheon, 78, of Lake George, Minnesota, passed away on 8/29/26.
Born 8/3/48 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Rich was the son of Ward and Jessie McCutcheon. He attended Northeastern State College and served as a Sergeant in the Air National Guard. A salesman by trade, he worked with Keebler, McCormick, Libby, Nabisco, and Conagra — turning everyday conversations into memorable ones.
Rich’s life was warmly tied to the people around him. He married Marcia McCutcheon in 1973 in Tulsa, OK. Known for a good sense of humor, he loved to tell jokes, stay generous, and keep things light — often with the instincts of a proud outdoorsman. Fishing, golf (playing and watching), hunting, and traveling were regular parts of his rhythm, and he especially enjoyed an annual Canadian fishing trip with friends.
Those who knew him will remember how he shared his passions — taking his grandkids out on the boat to fish, then teaching them how to ski. His talent for making others smile left a mark that will last.
He is survived by wife Marcia McCutcheon; older brother Joe McCutcheon; daughter Erica O’Hern and son Justin McCutcheon, daughter-in-law Shannon McCutcheon; grandchildren Colin O’Hern, Aidan O’Hern, Elisa McCutcheon, and Lauren McCutcheon. He was preceded in death by his mother Jessie McCutcheon, father Ward McCutcheon, and younger brother Carl McCutcheon.
The family also extends appreciation to the medical staff at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center ICU.
In lieu of flowers, Rich’s family requests contributions be made in his honor to Ducks Unlimited or The Nature Conservancy.

Im so thankful to be able to watch this tribute to Richard. He was such a wonderful person and loved by our entire family. When I think about Rich I always hear his laugh. I know my Mom and Dad will be happy to see him in heaven. Sending much love to all. Erin Boswell Walston
Thanks for sharing these memories with us. Uncle Rich taught me that sales did not always have to be serious and taught me how to stock shelves in a Jewel store before the Bears game. He was the only guy I knew that always had cookies as samples (in the trunk of his car) – he was cool…
I was fortunate to have meet Rich in 1985. We worked together, fished together, played golf together and made some wonderful memories together. A better person and friend would be hard to find. I can vividly see Rich lower his glasses and peer at me through the top of them with his crazy grin. Godspeed Richie, you will be missed.
I had the pleasure of working with for over 25 years. We experienced many good and tumultuous times while working with Nabisco and ConAgra.
We enjoyed several fishing trips while Rich was vacationing in Florida. I even assisted Rich to help him land his first tarpon. Can say that Rich fought the tarpon for 10 minutes and then sat down to enjoy several adult beverages while I landed his tarpon. Process took over 45 minutes to land the fish but he was all smiles while getting his trophy catch.
We will miss him.
I remember Richard way back in our college years in Tahlequah! I actually knew him before Marcia. He was the greatest! What a wonderful person.
I have known Rich and Marsha since we first met in Wichita Kansas. We have been good friends ever since. Will certainly miss his kindness, humor and friendship. God bless you Rich.
