Obituary

Mary Catherine Jones, 79, of Englewood, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026. She was born on June 27, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to Charles and Ruth Adams as second of 5 children.

Mary graduated from high school in Detroit and went on to pursue higher education with great dedication. She earned her undergraduate degree from Wayne State University, her master’s degree from The Ohio State University, and later achieved her doctorate from Wayne State University.

In 1973, she married Walter M. “Wally” Jones. The couple lived in the Chicagoland area from 1973 until 1988. Mary initially worked in the insurance field and then went into hospital administration. In 1988 they moved to Louisville, Kentucky where Mary continued to work in hospital administration. In 1994, her passion for education eventually led her to Kentucky Community and Technical College, where she began teaching. Over the course of a distinguished 20-year career, she rose through the ranks and ultimately served as Vice President of the college.

Following her retirement, Mary and Wally relocated to Englewood, Florida, where they embraced an active and fulfilling life together. They enjoyed traveling and visited many countries around the world. The couple also shared a longtime passion for breeding and showing dachshunds, which brought them great joy and many lasting friendships.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Walter M. “Wally” Jones; her sisters, Anne Bonanni (Louis) and Patricia Lembas (Paul); her brother, Robert Adams; and her sister-in-law, Sharon Adams, wife of her late brother David Adams. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her dearly.

Goodness of God – Sample Memorial Choir

This song embodies the way John lived his life. In every situation, no matter the difficulty, he would proclaim God’s goodness.

John lived a life devoted to Jesus. He spent the majority of his career as a music minister & choir director in churches around the US. The Sample family put out a call for anyone who had served with John to join a virtual choir in his honor. What you see here is just a small picture of his legacy impact on the Kingdom of God. We pray this song blesses you and encourages you today.

Dear Wally,

Thank you for sending me the card and letting me know that I can now watch the entire service. I watch the service yesterday. It was a very nice. I’m Thankful that you were there for her in not only the good times but the not so good times. Especially at the end. Thank you again for this Memorial service for her. I wish I could have part of it, but my system wouldn’t work with it. Thank you again, I will miss Mary very much and you are in my daily prayers.

Dear Wally,
As Mary was “three times a lady” you are three times a gentleman. Such a loving ceremony. My mother had the challenges that Mary endured and my heart goes out to you. Mary left this earth with such dignity…which she deserved and you afforded her. She was such a smart and fun person and you are a great guy. Much love, Anne Radice

My deepest condolences to you Wally and all family/friends. I am the granddaughter of Marie Burnett sister of Ruth Adams, Mary’s mom. Aunt Ruth and the entire Adams family will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I have only met you and Mary a few times, but I can see just how very special your life together was. I remember Aunt Ruth talking about your dog shows. Thank you for including me today.
