Our hearts, though tender from her parting, also swell with a profound love and gratitude as we celebrate the precious life of our dear Edith B. Myers. On Sunday, April 6th, 2025, it was as if the gentlest hand reached down from Heaven inviting Edith home to everlasting peace.
Edith was the very definition of love made visible. She poured her heart into her roles as a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a cherished sister, and a friend whose warmth embraced everyone she met. To know Edith was to feel seen, understood, and truly cared for.
Born April 27, 1941 as the first blossom in the beautiful garden of eleven children born to the late Mr. McKinley (Mac) Baker Sr. and the late Mrs. Sally Mae Baker of Augusta, Georgia, Edith paved the way with grace and love. She now joins in peaceful rest her sister, Willie Mae Kelley, and her brothers, Arthur H. Baker and Edward Baker, and her beloved nieces, nephews and cousins, their memories all held close within our hearts.
Edith’s journey of learning and growth took her through the familiar halls of Lucy Laney High School here in Augusta, and then onward to the bustling energy of Monroe Business College in New York City. Her caring spirit shone brightly during her time at Harlem Hospital, and upon her return home, she became our beloved “Miss Edith” as a manager at Kmart for many years, a friendly face and a kind presence to all. Later, she dedicated herself to nurturing young minds through the Head Start program in South Augusta, leaving a lasting imprint of love and support.
From her earliest years, Edith’s heart belonged to the Lord. She found her spiritual home at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where her voice lifted in beautiful song with the E. A. Mass choir. Her faithful participation in the choir and the April Birth Month Ministry was a testament to her giving heart and unwavering devotion to her church family.
In December of 1965, a beautiful chapter unfolded as she met and married Joseph Myers, her beloved “Honey.” Theirs was a love story that blossomed and bore the precious gifts of two wonderful sons, Alvin and Terrence. Their family was a testament to the deep connection and enduring love they shared.
Edith’s loving spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts of those she leaves behind: her devoted husband, Joseph Myers; her cherished sons, Alvin (Christy) Myers and Terrence Myers; and her adored granddaughter, Sydney Myers, who will carry Nana’s love in her heart always.
Her sisters, Marleen (Joe) Collins of Grovetown, Georgia, Remel Baker of Augusta, Georgia, and Sylvia (Keith) Tolen of Columbia, South Carolina, will forever hold the unbreakable bond of sisterhood. Her brothers, McKinley “Mac” (Ruby) Baker, Robert (Samuella) Baker all of Augusta, Georgia, Calvin (Yolanda) Baker of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Leon (Connie) Baker of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, will keep her memory alive through shared stories and enduring love.
And to her dear sisters-in-law, Ora Lee Green, Annie Ruth Way, and the many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends – each of you held a special place in Edith’s heart, and she in yours. Her kindness and warmth touched so many lives, creating a legacy of love that will continue to ripple outward.
We don’t say goodbye to Edith, but rather, “until we meet again.” We celebrate her life lived with grace, with love, with unwavering faith, and with a heart that embraced the world. Edith B. Myers, your love remains a beacon in our lives. May you rest in perfect peace.
