Lorna Elaine Howard, affectionately known as “Lainey,” was born on May 8, 1944, in Kingston, Jamaica. She was the fourth child of Nathaniel A. Davis and Maude Davis – Thompson. She attended school in Jamaica, West Indies and later migrated to the United States in 1968. While residing in New York, she raised her two adoring sons Paul and Glen who she loved dearly. Elaine worked for over 17 years as Supervisor for Chemical Bank currently known as JP Morgan Chase. There she made many friends with whom she kept in touch with over the years. She also helped numerous people gain employment and move up the ranks with her guidance.
Elaine was soft spoken with a calm demeanor and jovial spirit. Her quick wit was often engaged in friendly banter. However, one of her best qualities was her heart. She was kind, giving and exuded an exorbitant amount of grace.
As a lover of music, Lainey had an extensive record collection which included: Reggae, Oldies, Doo-Wop and R&B. Elaine was also a lover of many sports. As a devoted Yankee fan, she would watch the games from home as well as attending games at Yankee Stadium with family. She also enjoyed the sport of wrestling, attending an event featuring the late great “Andre the Giant”.
Elaine was an amazing cook and hospitable entertainer. Her gifts and hospitality were beautifully displayed during the holidays and for celebratory occasions. She was well- known for her many specialties which included: roast beef, ham, oxtails, curry goat, stew peas, rice and peas, and potato salad just to name a few.
Lainey enjoyed playing dominoes and card games which would often last for hours and sometimes an entire weekend. At times the volume and language from these games brought so much laughter.
Elaine enjoyed chatting with her niece Donna especially when trying to decide which numbers to play that day. The two had a special relationship and shared comedic YouTube videos throughout the day. Her favorite TV shows included: Soap Operas, Game Shows, and the legendary Judge Judy.
The love of family was essential in her life. Elaine would call her sisters every other day to reminisce or just check in. That love was evident with the affection and support she displayed towards all.
Lorna Elaine “Lainey” Howard was called home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2023. She is survived by Sons: Paul Powell and Glen Chang, Grandchildren: Stephen, Larell, Patrick, Malachi, Preston, Elijah, Caleb, and Malcolm. Great-Grandchildren: Genevive, Phen, Lori, and Sebastian. Let me just that this I am a lover of all things the 70’s due to my late cousin Marlene Jones aka”‘Donna’s” influence. The clothes, the makeup, the shows, the music etc. Can I just say my Aunt Elaine in the picture with the famous red blouse and white pants and espadrilles and layered chain; I mean BOSS. Just saying. I must get a copy family and frame it. That’s not the only picture but for now I’ll start with that.
Dear Aunt Elaine,
It was so beautiful to see your face again. I’m so thankful for the family that God provided for us. Nothings perfect but our family is so worth it. You were and still are such a laidback, funny & warm Aunty 💜. Thank you for loving us, always asking for us and just being you. Your personality was so cool and chill, but kept us on our toes with your witty remarks. You’ve raised such kind hearted and well rounded Men. Proud to call them my older cousins. Your grace can never be questioned. The way you loved your grandchildren is unmatched. I will miss hearing your hellos on the phone but until we all meet again. If any of my family members see this know that I love you dearly. Oh and Aunt Elaine, could you send some numbers and recipes in my dreams please? I need a little help in the kitchen lol. Will never forget Thanksgivings in the Bronx/ Jersey. Love you, say hi to granny and nana for me💜
Hands Down Facts Sweet Peach.
Auntie
You will be missed
Aunt Elaine you will be missed. But you will always be in our heart.
My Aunt Elaine, where do I begin? Aunt Elaine’s one of the famous homes for a good time, good music and good food let me say that again bangin’ food. Ok? She didn’t just throw down in the kitchen, she COOKED PERIOD end of story. The interesting thing was she had it down to an exact science it was the making her list and checking it twice lol. Shopping for the items and knowing when the right time was to get exactly what she needed, and prepping. I loved hearing when it came time to ask her the famous question “So what’s on the menu Aunt Elaine”? She was so happy to say it in such a cute voice as I would listen to her go down the list of goodies. She loved having family dinners and so did we.
Now, about the music, to this day, anytime I hear certain reggae jams, the classics, the oldies I can trace back to some point of my childhood like it was just yesterday. Shout out to Tito I believe he knows what I am saying along with plenty others in my family.
The trips we used to go on to Philadelphia (Philly), going to Florida by car always stopping at South of the Border and Canada to attend Caribana. Fun Times.
Knowing she is with The Almighty in one of those many mansions is beautiful thing Trumpets sounded, gate opened wide, God’s loving arms wide open saying welcome my daughter. Well Done My Aunt Elaine. Well Done. Until we met again Aunt Elaine. I love you. I will miss you.
To Be Continued….
