William F. Cody, 64, left this world on September 2, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He lived a life marked by grit, service, and stories big enough to fill a lifetime.
A former United States Marine and retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff, William spent his career in various divisions within Los Angeles Metro Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department before settling in and retiring out of the LASD Motor Division — living the dream, riding motorcycles for a living and embodying the kind of steadfast bravery that defined him. He lived boldly, worked hard, and carried himself with the unmistakable presence of a man who had seen much, done much, and stood tall through all of it.
When he married his wife, Lisa, he often joked that she had ushered in the “kinder, gentler Cody era.” In truth, they changed each other. He softened, and she grew stronger — the kind of strength forged only by loving a man who spent his life protecting others. After retiring and moving to Texas, William blossomed fully into the cowboy he had always wanted to be. He taught Lisa to ride, cared for their horses, and embraced the wide-open life with joy and purpose.
Together, they navigated eleven years of cancer and its aftermath. Even as chronic pain wore on him, William never stopped fighting, and Lisa never stopped fighting for him. He helped care for her parents during their dementia years, never stopped apologizing for “falling out on her” after he became ill — though he never needed to. His devotion was constant, and his love unwavering.
William is survived by his wife, Lisa, his extended Texas family, and his brothers and sisters in the LA Metro and LASD communities who stood with him throughout his life.
He will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved fiercely, and met every challenge head-on — a warrior, a cowboy, and a husband whose presence will be missed beyond measure.

We met William or as we called him, Cody when we moved into the neighborhood. He and Lisa were great neighbors. He was always so kind and friendly, the kind of neighbor your lucky to have. I will always remember one day he came knocking on our door and said after supper id love to take Aaron for a ride. Oh boy was my young son excited. Now at 21 years old he still remembers that day and talks about Cody often. One of the many memories we have of our wonderful friend and neighbor. He will be truly missed. Sending our love to Lisa and family. Your Blackhawk neighbor will always be here for you!
It was always great to partner with Wild Bill during MTA PD days. He was a Cop’s Cop. You are missed my friend. God Bless. And prayers for Lisa and all his loved ones.
“If you get there before I do, don’t give up on me.
I’ll meet you when my chores are through;
I don’t know how long I’ll be.
But I’m not gonna let you down, darling wait and see.
And between now and then, till I see you again,
I’ll be loving you. Love, me…”
I’ll love you forever, baby. Thank you for loving me.
