Evelyn Louise King Morey, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Arizona due to natural causes at the end of a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in her parent’s home near rural Booneville, Iowa, on Cumming Road, daughter of Walter and Mae King, who instilled in her the values of kindness and community. Evelyn was preceded in death by her devoted parents, daughter Christine Melissa, brothers Marvin and Gene King, sister Mary Pleiseis-King, and husband Thomas Morey.
Evelyn is survived by sons Mark Morey (Janice) and Michael Morey, and daughters, Linda King, Lisa Morey-Taylor (Jay) who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. She also leaves behind one sister, Roberta “Bobbie” King Kennedy (Jack), Grandchildren Brandon, Justin, and Sean Morey, step grandchildren Tia, Joe, (Deven), Chris (Kalleen) and Alisa (Kevin) and step great-grandchildren Sarah, Ryley, Mellyssa, Lorynn Taylin, Talon, Christopher, Spencer, Trever, Mayra, Nathan and Joshua Taylor. Nieces Carol Kennedy (Monty) Suzanne King, nephew Michael Kennedy (Jill) and many Morey relatives who will remember her warmth and the countless joyful moments they shared.
As a child Evelyn also lived in South Carolina and in Alpine, Arizona, and near Orilla, Iowa before her parents bought their farm near Van Wert, Iowa where she finished grade school at Spring Valley Country school and high school in Van Wert. After high school graduation, Evelyn worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Des Moines, IA.
Her journey took her far from her roots in Iowa; she eventually made her way to Long Beach, California, where she met her husband Thomas, and fulfilled her dream of building a family. Evelyn’s educational background and experiences shaped her into the remarkable woman she was. After a short time as a dental assistant, she dedicated much of her life to raising her precious children, and as a church secretary for over 30 years at various Methodist churches in the Long Beach area, with her final role at Los Altos Methodist Church.
Evelyn was not only devoted to her family but also to the community. As a Camp Fire group leader, she nurtured the spirits of many young individuals, fostering their growth and development. Her hobbies included puzzles, sewing, and square dancing, and she found joy in walking, participating in TOPS clubs, and being an active member of the Red Hat Club and Bunco group. Known for her kindness, she endeavored to ensure that everyone around her felt good and cared for, always extending a helping hand to those in need.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who provided loving care to Evelyn during her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Your compassion and dedication made a profound difference in her life and the lives of her family.
A celebration of Evelyn’s remarkable life will be held on November 14, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Forest Lawn, Cypress, CA. All are welcome to join in remembering the beautiful spirit of Evelyn Morey.
Evelyn’s legacy of love, compassion, and community will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
